Motorcycle Camping Along the Peak-to-Peak Highway

Colorado’s Peak-to-Peak Highway is a favorite for motorcyclists, and it has a variety of camping opportunities for those inclined to do motorcycle camping. As always, any campgrounds I list are fully motorcycle-accessible. Campgrounds along the Peak-to-Peak, starting at the north end near Estes Park and working south toward Black Hawk, include Olive Ridge, Peaceful Valley and Camp Dick (adjacent), Kelly-Dahl, and Cold Springs.

Olive Ridge Campground

Olive Ridge CampgroundOlive Ridge Campground is on Colorado 7 just north of Allenspark along the Peak-to-Peak Highway. The turn-off is paved and then the road in the campground is good, hard-packed gravel, great for motorcycle access.

There are 56 campsites and there are tables, fire rings, toilets, shade, and water. The fee is $21 per night.

For reservations call 1-877-444-6777.

Peaceful Valley and Camp Dick Campgrounds

Camp Dick CampgroundJust off Colorado 72, to the south of the town of Peaceful Valley, are Peaceful Valley and Camp Dick Campgrounds. One turn-off leads to both campgrounds, along an excellent paved road.

All the roads in both campgrounds are paved, so they are definitely motorcycle-accessible.

You first reach Peaceful Valley Campground, which has 17 sites. The road passes through the campground and continues another mile as a one-lane road to Camp Dick Campground, which has 41 sites.

Tables, fire rings, toilets, and water are available in all. Some sites have shade while others do not. The fee is $21 per night.

For reservations call 1-877-444-6777.

Kelly-Dahl Campground

Kelly-Dahl CampgroundThree miles south of Nederland on the Peak-to-Peak Highway is Kelly-Dahl Campground, just a short distance off Colorado 119 on good, hard-packed gravel. A good choice for camping motorcyclists.

Tables, fire rings, toilets, and water are available. The whole campground is very shady. There are 41 campsites.

The fee is $21 per night. For reservations call 1-877-444-6777. There is an extra charge for reservations.

Cold Springs Campground

Cold Springs CampgroundJust to the south of where CO 46, coming up through Golden Gate Canyon, connects with the Peak to Peak Highway, you will find Cold Springs Campground.

There are 46 sites, all with shade, fire rings, tables, toilets, and water.

The gravel road through the campground is in excellent condition so getting in with a motorcycle is easy. Even my Concours was OK with this good gravel.

Tents must be kept on tent pads.

The fee is $19 per night. For reservations call 1-877-444-6777.

We camped here in August 2015 and really liked the place. Good hiking and an easy climb to a terrific viewpoint.
