Motorcycle Camping on Tennessee Pass

This page includes motorcycle-accessible campgrounds along US 24 over Tennessee Pass. One is Camp Hale Campground and the other is Hornsilver Campground.

Camp Hale Campground

Camp Hale CampgroundUS 24 runs up from I-70 at Minturn, down to Leadville, crossing over Tennessee Pass in the process. Camp Hale Campground is a ways off US 24 but is easily accessible on a good paved road. It would definitely be a good campground for motorcyclists touring Colorado.

Camp Hale Campground is in the area that was once home of the 10th Mountain Division, which trained here for alpine warfare during World War II.

Take the main Camp Hale turn-off at the view area and follow the road straight across the valley. When you reach the T intersection go right.

There are 21 campsites and water, toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and some shade. The one-night fee is $21.

For reservations visit Recreation.gov.

Hornsilver Campground

Hornsilver Campground Hornsilver Campground is right alongside US 24 near Tennessee Pass, about 2.5 miles south of Red Cliff. There are 12 campsites and water, toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and a lot of shade. The river is nearby so there may be mosquitos. The trailhead to Holy Cross Wilderness is close by. The nightly camping fee is $19

There are no reservations for this campground; it is strictly first-come, first-served.
