Motorcycle Camping at Lake Isabel

St. Charles and La Vista Campgrounds are the two motorcycle-accessible campgrounds in Colorado's Lake Isabel Recreation Area. The recreation area is along CO 165, northwest of Rye and Colorado City. For more perspective, this area is a little southwest of Pueblo.

There are also two group campgrounds and a camper/RV-only campground. The recreation area arcs around Lake Isabel, directly adjacent to the town of that name. A restaurant in town will get you fed in case you aren't carrying supper with you.

This first photo is the sign showing you the layout of the recreation area. Be advised – north is down and south is up in this sign. That’s CO 165 along the left side. The recreation area is actually on the west side of the highway.

St. Charles Campground

St. Charles Campground offers 15 sites. Site #3 is especially nice.

All have fire rings and grills, tables, water, good toilets, and trash receptacles. They’re very good trash receptacles because there are bears in the area.

All roads are paved. The nightly fee is $22.

For reservations, call 877-444-6777.

La Vista Campground

La Vista Campground, which is right on the lake, has 12 RV sites and 6 tent-only sites. The tent-only sites are all nice. Sorry I don’t have a photo. Some kind of oversight, I guess.

All have fire rings and grills, tables, water, good toilets, and trash receptacles. The nightly fee is $24.

For reservations, visit Recreation.gov.
